Piano Solo - Toccata
Composed in 2011, the Toccata reflects a Baroque concept of form and performance practice combined with a modern sense of tonality and harmonic language. This arrangement for piano solo is based on a single enigmatically chromatic theme taken from the third movement of the Symphony #4 in B minor. This single theme is used in various permutations throughout the piece in a quasi- improvisational chromatic style that seeks to emulate and re-create the atmosphere characteristic of the Baroque period, having a gravitas reminiscent of Gothic architecture.
